The second temporary exhibition to be held at the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum is an ‘anthropological’ journey of the mannequin as a work of art and a clothing display. From 20 April to 17 June over 200 objects will be on view in the Museum hall, including mannequins and other historical items from the collection of the long-established company La Rosa, Milan. Getaria, 20, April 2012. The anthological exhibition “ManiQUEEN, since 1922″ brings to life the historical background of Milan mannequin manufacturer La Rosa, considered a modern industry of the Renaissance and a symbol of Italian excellence and creativity. “ManneQueen, since 1922″ will showcase mannequins – style-icon plastic queens – and other historical objects in the Museum hall from 20 April to 17 July. The exhibition will take visitors on a 90-year journey, from the ultra-lifelike mannequins of the 1920s and 30s, to the neutrality and ‘disappearance’ of the modern-day mannequin. Also featured are construction materials, vintage photographs, unknown films, unpublished documents, and other historical objects. However, the exhibition is not just a presentation of these curious clothing displays. It also looks at the different ways the human body was portrayed over the course of the century, and explores the impact that visual art had on the mannequins (cubism, surrealism, realism, minimalism, etc.).
